Make it simple

OneStepCheckout simplifies the checkout process of your Magento store. Checking out is often the most complicated part of placing an order online, and many users end up abandoning their order. Some customers will be motivated enough to purchase regardless of how difficult it is – but others will be lost due to checkout complexity. OneStepCheckout greatly simplifies this process, leading to an increase in sales.

six-to-oneKey features in OneStepCheckout

OneStepCheckout is all about reducing customer abandonment and increasing conversions. Our module comes packed with a ton of features. You reduce checkout steps from six to one, simplify the process completely, avoid confusing customer with questions about registration. Simply provide a better checkout experience.

Here are the key features in OneStepCheckout

  • Disable unwanted fields like zip, city, state, country, zipcode and more
  • Rearrange the order of the fields to match your country/region
  • Super easy installation process – just upload files and you are done
  • Set a default shipping and payment method
  • Enable checkbox for subscribing newsletter and approving terms
  • Change title and description from backend interface
  • Auto-update prices, totals, taxes and more when customer changes country / shipping / payment
  • Possibility to hide shipping and payment method options

Since the release a year ago, we have released a new version about each quarter. All our new releases has been greatly received in the market, as we get a lot of feedback from our customers for each release.

Our Magento module is very easy to install, and follows the module development guidelines set out by Magento. The software is delivered as a ZIP file (you can download it from our download area) and it can be uploaded directly to your Magento installation. Also, the source code is not encrypted in any way, so you are free to make changes as you desire.

General product information

OneStepCheckout is developed like any regular Magento extension and follows the Magento module guidelines. It does not override any core classes or templates, which makes it unlikely to come into conflict with other modules. Installation is as easy as uploading the contents of the ZIP file to your Magento installation, and the rest will be done from the administration interface. Also, the module will not overwrite any files, just add new ones.

OneStepCheckout is thoroughly tested on all Magento versions, including Magento Community 1.3 – 1.4, Magento Professional, Magento Enterprise 1.7-1.9. Our module is also tested in all modern browsers. The source code is not encrypted in any way, so it is fully possible to make customizations as you desire.

Whats new in version 3.1

blog-new-version-onestepcheckout

Version 3.1 of OneStepCheckout comes packed with a bunch of new features, many of which has been requested by our customers. Here comes a quick list of the new features, some of them are explained in more detail below:

  • Field ordering – choose the order the fields should appear, perfect for customizing to a specific country/region
  • “How did you hear about us” feature that allows your customers to tell you where they found your site
  • Possibility to add extra products that customer can add to cart while in checkout. Perfect for seasonal items like “Rush fee” or “Gift wrap”
  • New setting to hide shipping method if there is only one available
  • A much easier installation process, without need to modify any templates
  • Fully compatible with Magento Enterprise 1.7, 1.8, 1.9 as well as Magento Professional (and of course all community versions)
  • Support for logged in users with multiple addresses – can now choose from a saved address
  • New setting for whether the newsletter checkbox should be checked by default
  • A loading screen after clicking “Place order” to avoid multiple clicks from impatient users
  • New setting for whether prices in the review area should be including or excluding tax
  • Full support for the new Centinel 3D Secure introduced in Magento 1.4
  • Better support for order comments in Magento 1.4.1.1 – as well as no template changes needed to use this feature
  • Improved serial mechanism so you will only need one serial per domain – valid for all subdomains
  • Bugs regarding discount codes and empty order totals have been completely resolved

Field ordering

A lot of customers have requested the possibility to change the order the fields appear in the checkout. We have implemented this and it is available in the 3.1 release. It is now easy to go to the backend administration and specify exactly what order the fields should appear.

This makes it a lot easier to customize OneStepCheckout to fit your country without making template changes.

How did you hear about us?

Also requested by several customers, we have now implemented a “How did you hear about us?” field. The field can be enabled from the backend administration, and you can add several options

howdidyouhear

Extra products in checkout

A feature we have wanted to add for a while, is the possibility to add products that the customer will be introduced to before clicking the “Place order” button. It will enable the customer to add upsell/accessories to the cart without leaving the checkout page. This feature is perfect for features like “Rush fee” and “Gift wrap” for the holidays. See the screenshot below to see how it looks in the checkout:

Centinel 3D secure

The Centinel 3D secure feature introduced in Magento 1.4, allows payment methods to use an <IFRAME> to allow the customer to verify their creditcard directly in the webshop – without ever leaving the store. This greatly helps for conversion, and we are delighted to announce that version 3 of OneStepCheckout will support this feature 100%. Paypal already uses this type of creditcard verification and it is very likely that many more payment methods will introduce this in the nearest future.

Improved distribution

When version 3 is released, we will also release a new way to distribute our software. From now on our customers will always have access to the latest version from a download area on our website, so the customers can then themselves make sure they are using the latest version and download it. It will also contain an overview over the different serials attached to the customers domains, so there is no need to look through emails to find the serial.

Improved Magento Enterprise/Professional support

Since Magento released Enterprise version 1.7, we have had several requests from our customers that want full support for the new features introduces in this version, mainly features like “Store credit” and “Reward points”. These features are also part of the Magento Professional edition, and we are now happy to announce that OneStepCheckout is 100% compatible with these versions. We have done thorough testing and already have 10+ customers that are using this feature with our product.

We are very excited about launching this next version of OneStepCheckout, and hope you are too! If you have any thoughts about new features that you would like to see in a future version, we are more than happy to hear about it. As said the next version will be released within a couple of weeks and we will inform you by email once its ready.

New documentation Wiki

October 24th, 2010

We are proud to finally announce our new documentation Wiki for OneStepCheckout. The new Wiki is the only resource you will need to install, upgrade, customize and troubleshoot your OneStepCheckout installation. Using PDF files for documentation is rigid and not very flexible, and with our new Wiki we can always add new content easily and have it available for everyone immediately, instead of re-creating PDFs and sending them around.

The Wiki can and will be improved further as new issues occur and we find a solution for them. The most important areas of the current wiki are:

From now on the Wiki will be our main place to add information related to using our product. If you have any suggestions to common questions or similar that we haven’t covered already, please contact us and let us know.

Reviews on Magento Connect

June 10th, 2010

The “Reviews” section on Magento Connect has gone through some changes lately, as they have implemented a third party review system to avoid spam and other issues. They finally published all the reviews that were added to our module and here they are:

justintime67 (09. june 2010, 16:33:54)

I have been considering getting the onestepcheckout for close to twelve months… My only regret is not getting it sooner!

Was very easy to install (very minimal coding required) and works like a charm. Since installing conversion rates have gone from 2% to 2.4%.

Great extension with great support from the developers. I fully recommend this extension, it has paid for itself within a few days! It is extensions (and developers) like these that make me so happy to be on the magento platform!

If you would like to see the extension in action visit: www.HappyCow.com.au

erlinghamso (08. june 2010, 11:29:43)

I’m certain that there is no other extension that gives a higher ROI than OneStepCheckout. The original Magento checkout progress is a joke, and OneStepCheckout fixes it.

Even though the early versions had some issues, the developers have listened to feedback and patched up most issues quickly. Now it is robust as hell!

This is the only extension I recommend (and use) on every shop I develop! Not installing it would most definitely result in lost sales on any Magento store.

firewizard (08. june 2010, 11:09:38)

As a Magento developer/integrator/consultant, I’ve installed OSC for almost all of my clients – the difference is huge (6 steps to a single step). Yes, it’s not exactly cheap, but considering its purpose (to improve the conversion rate), I’m sure any store owner would agree they can break even after only a few months, depending on their sales volume.

Integrating the module was fairly easy, customizing very megento-like. Communication with the developers/account managers went well from day one, response times were minimal and they even fixed some bugs in a few hours after reporting them (in the early versions).

Couldn’t find any problem so far and I’ve been integrating and customizing this module for more than 6 months. Definitely a 5 stars extension – totally recommend it!

Senetor (08. june 2010, 11:01:24)

There is no doubt that OneStepCheckout is the truly must have extension for your Magento. It may look a little high priced – but does it really matter when you have earned your money back in a month?

OneStepCheckout improves your conversion rate and your sales. It’s not a question whether it does or not – the question is how much. The support delivered from OneStepCheckout is outstanding; fast-email replies, and they listen to your ideas about how the product can become even better.

A very satisfied customer here – 5 thumbs up.

astanovitsia (28. mai 2010, 14:19:14)

This is a wonderful application. After installing the conversion increased by 30%. It’s easy and convenient for our customers.

- Adequate price (for such a complex product)

- Flexibility of application

Excellent work

scaleman (27. mai 2010, 02:28:25)

OneStepCheckout is the best extension I purchased and when I had a minor problem with the extension the staff at OneStepCheckout was right there to help me out. If you need a shopping cart extension don’t bother to look at any of them since OneStepCheckout is the best.

Gjest (26. mai 2010, 20:48:36)

We bought a couple of “one step checkout” solutions which was cheaper than this one but none worked as told and the service was worthless. $$= gone.

We decided to go with this OneStepCheckout and it worked perfectly from the start with our customized page.

We hade one issue (while moving from the development server to the live one) with the gift message though so we sent an email to the support and got an answer back within 15 minutes with a suggestion, we tried it out and it worked perfectly.

Ever since, this module has been working flawlessly and we warmly recommend this product for it’s stability and the good support you recieve with the product.

This is one of the best modules for Magento and it is worth every penny. The original checkout is sadly a joke and this OSC should be delivered as a standard.

scarmardo (17. mai 2010, 23:07:30)

I really wanted to like this extension, but there are several key features that do not work, and it forces all accounts to be registered as a guest account, even if they have an existing account.

I believe this could be fixed, and it is not a specific installation issue, as the behavior is the same on the demo site.

Support will not respond to emails, or provide any support. I’ve found if I have a simple question, like can I get a link to a file, etc… he will respond quickly. But if I have a more in depth question, there is no response or acknowledgement of the issue, no follow up, he just ignores it.

I would highly recommend avoiding this vendor/company. In the end, you can’t have a checkout feature that does not work.

This extension would be great if the main person who develops it would respond to emails and provide support.

there are several bugs in the extension which could be fixed, but Jone simply ignores them. If you ask him something simple, he will respond, but if it is anything else you will get no response.

mikefifield (14. mai 2010, 11:03:01)

One Step Checkout is a first rate extension and a must have for anyone serious about conversion. I have been using Magento for over a year now and never liked the default checkout process.

The checkout page has been on my list of things to fix for some time now but after stumbling across an article titled the $300 million Button, it jumped to the top of that list. The article tells how a leading e-commerce site saw an increase in sales to the tune of $300 million per year after changing their checkout page. The change they made was going from something very similar to magento’s default, to a true one page checkout like this extension provides. Here is the article if anyone’s interested: http://www.uie.com/articles/three_hund_million_button/.

Anyway I purchased the extension a week ago and have already seen an increase in sales! Highly recommended!

Mike

Ive bought OneStepCheckout a few days ago. The installation went fine. Only the serial wouldnt validate. After a few emails and a new serial it worked. Great and fast support.

Granit Nikq (30. april 2010, 12:52:13)

OneStepCheckout is a great extension and it had a great impact on our conversion. This is one of the best extensions for Magento and the installation is really easy. Thumbs up. Granit Nikq – Easyunderwear.nl

OneStepCheckout, a great improvement for any webshop!

Every webshop loses a significant amount of sales due to potential customers abandoning their (well filled) shopping cart. Usually due to lengthy and “labour intensive” checkout procedures. For www.watchdeluxe.nl, OneStepCheckout largely solves this problem by reducing the amount of required steps and info needed to order and pay for an item to an absolute minimum. True to it’s name, OneStepCheckout lets customers finish their order easily and quickly by filling out a few fields conveniently displayed on one, simple check out page.

Watchdeluxe.nl was already the best watchshop in the Netherlands, but it just got even better thanks to OneStepCheckout.

You can of course also read the reviews directly on our Magento Connect page.

We are hiring a Technical Support Manager

May 26th, 2010

OneStepCheckout is experiencing rapid growth and needs a highly skilled Magento developer to assist with technical support as well as other development. All support is related to Magento and our checkout extension OneStepCheckout. It requires great understanding of Magento and Magento concepts, as well as being familiar with how custom modules work in Magento. • Handle and perform requests for customizations (15% of the assigned time)
    • Provide reasonable quotes based on customers requirements
  • Make development improvements to OneStepCheckout (If the other points go well, this can be a next step)

Job description

The main objective of the employee is to respond to all technical support queries that are received at OneStepCheckout’s email. This is mainly answering common questions about the software, as well as figure out what customers have done wrong in installation process or other issues they are experiencing. The reported issues vary greatly in their source and behaviour, and this requires a vast knowledge about all corners of Magento. Common issues are:
  • Incorrect installation setups with default/default vs base/default vs custom/theme
  • Incompability caused by third party modules
  • Custom themes with CSS that makes checkout render incorrectly
  • Checkout generates error report in var/report
Most of the issues reported is fixable and we usually find a solution to any given issue within 1-2 hours. Some issues will obviously require more time and take several hours. For each new issue that is resolved one would have to consider publishing the solution to our Wiki in order to have an answer ready for next time the issue occurs.
Since each Magento store is different – and using a custom theme and a different set of third party modules – it is impossible to know beforehand what kind of issues will occur – this is why a thorough understanding of all Magento concepts are required, in order to figure out any kind of issue. You might see an XML error, a blank checkout page, a checkout with Javascript errors, and much more.
OneStepCheckout relies heavily on Javascript for AJAX and a lot more – it is required of the employee to be familiar and experienced with AJAX and Javascript and how this is used in Magento – with the Prototype library. The developer should have hands-on experience with using Prototype or jQuery, and should be able to generate rock-solid Javascript code with full understanding of AJAX concepts. Being familiar with the Firefox extension “Firebug” is a requirement, as it provides great help in debugging issues by using the console, monitoring requests and responses for AJAX requests, and much more.

PS: If you are a beginner within Magento development, please do not waste your as well as our time by applying to this position. We are looking for a senior Magento developer.

Please send a mail to our CTO, Jone Eide, on eide@onestepcheckout.com if you want to apply or have any questions. Please provide references to previous Magento work.
